Healthy after school snacks the kids will love!

For those of us in the southern hemisphere we are well into term 3 of school, and for those in the northern hemisphere it’s time to start a new school year. Recently the boys have been coming home from school ravenous. Knowing dinner isn’t far away I’m reluctant to give them snacks that are too filling but there’s no way they will last until dinner hour without something. The lovely Jennifer from Beautifully Alive has come to my aid and put together a list of quick snacks that will keep everyone happy! Continue reading

Product review: Mustela Stelatopia range for dry and eczema-prone skin

I’ve had dry skin for as long as I remember and of course in the winter months it tends to flare up. Over the years I’ve tried different creams and eventually found one that worked for my skin. My youngest unfortunately inherited my skin type – dry and sensitive. I remember moisturising his skinny little legs on the change table thinking how could a baby’s skin be this dry. What is that thing called ‘work-life balance’?

The first time I seriously focused on work-life balance was when I returned to work after my first-born, like so many other parents. Seven years and another child later, I’m still chasing it. Don’t get me wrong – on some days I nail it and I’m beaming like the child whose just got the last treat. On other days I’m like a shrieking banshee that would make even the neighbours run from their houses. Continue reading

There are such things as ‘I suck’ days.

Have you ever had an “I suck” day? I have on many occasions. Just recently actually. I felt unorganised, there was so much happening (and it’s only April!), the kids were whingey about one thing or another, I hadn’t been able to exercise, the house felt like a pig-sty and I was just totally over all of it! I ranted and grunted as I moved through the house. My shoulders were hunched. I walked around with a face that would make a priest back off. I was fed up. Continue reading

Long weekend-ing (last one for the year!)

I’ve just realised it’s been a while since I last posted here! Life has been quite busy and time just seems to be slipping away. Anyhow, we’ve just had the last long weekend for the year here in Sydney and it heralds the start of the warm season. We escaped Sydney and headed to Windang which is on the New South Wales south coast – beautiful part of the country with stunning beach line and amazing markets to stop and have a wander around. Am I okay with being a ‘soccer mum’?

My husband and I aren’t very sporty so we were surprised when our eldest started showing quite an interest in any and every sport. He’s really into NRL (National Rugby League) but we’re not too keen on him playing that. He’ll sit and watch basketball, tennis, swimming and every other sport if it’s on television. I need to quickly scroll through the channels on the weekend in the hope he doesn’t catch a glimpse of the sports that are on. Continue reading
