Teachers. I admire them for taking on my children and hundreds of others six hours a day, five days a week, up to 40 weeks a year. They deserve a Christmas gift and so much more! It can be hard trying to think of the best gift that isn’t underwhelming or cliché so I’ve put together a list of ideas based on feedback from parents, students and teachers over our four years at primary. Do you have other ideas you would add?

Ethical gifts are increasingly popular. There are so many choices from Flora and Fauna including the Eco Max brushes (image them wrapped together in a tea towel similar to a bunch of flowers!) and vegan make-up brushes to funky socks and wallets. I’ve also seen a couple of teachers at our school using beeswax wrappers for their lunch and there are some funky designs at Beeswax Wrap Australia. You’re likely to find a small business at local markets selling these.
Homemade items are always a winner. Think about making something as simple as a card, cookies or rocky road (just be aware of any dietary requirements). The Minimalist Baker has great, simple yet tasty recipes. Condiments are another popular item including pickles, sauces, conserves, and gin marmalade that can be parcelled up nicely on their own or in a hamper. Check out Not Socks for ideas and search local shops and op shops for cute baskets that can be used for hampers.
Personalised mugs, notepads, stickers, stamps – anything personalised! Etsy is the place to go for some amazing businesses. I purchased personalised bookmarks for our library teacher a couple of years ago and she adored them! A favourite by parents is a succulent with personalised planter stakes. There are many options available including Valley Label Store and My Crafty Dog Studio. Cute Christmas decorations are available at Little Birdy Finds, beautiful leather notebooks at Something For Keeps and fabulous stamps at Zazzle.
Alcohol is acceptable – check out these fun wine labels from Label With Love. Gift baskets of food or pamper items and vouchers for stores and beauty sessions were other suggestions too.
Teachers are important but also don’t forget about our librarians, canteen ladies, lollipop person, office administration. Who else deserves a little something??
